Azilal Hand Woven Rug Collection

Coming Soon!

Azilal rugs are unique hand woven textiles created for domestic use by Imazighen (Berber) women from the Ait Bouzid, Ait Shokmane, Ait Bou Oulli and Ait Bougmez tribes located in the Tadla-Azilal province in the Atlas Mountains. More rare than the Beni Ourains, they often feature similar natural ivory and ebony diamond lattice designs on a natural undyed wool background, but are distinctive for their resemblance to wildly abstract art compositions. This abstract minimalist quality of the woven designs provide insight into an ancient culture rooted in pagan beliefs and gives visual expression to the weaver's stories of happiness, hopes and aspirations.
